March 27th.
As I said earlier, it's time for the fiddly bits, and fiddly they are! Now it's on the ground, it needed a sidestand. But not just any old one. This was fabricated from 5/16" round bar, and the pad was fashioned into the shape of a clawed hand. So, actually, it's a hand-stand. Making this, along with the bracket and return-spring mounts took up the best part of a day! I also knocked up a set of square handlebars and severely modified the top yoke to get more steering lock.

Sidestand
March 28th,
time for the electrics box. Fills the gap nicely and also incorporates a tube running from the upper frame rails to the engine plates, to give the frame more rigidity. Every square millimetre of available space was taken up with this box, as it has to hold a car battery and all the electricary!


March 29th....
Fuel tank. This is an extremely crucial part of the bike, and had to look spot-on, as well as fulfilling several criteria.....ie, holding lots of petrol, looking as if it holds bugger-all, and also having a space to mount various switches. It also had to be both curvy and angular at the same time. This is made from 16SWG sheet...very thick and good to weld (doesn't distort too much). Whilst it looks very small, it's deceptive. The tank extends down between the frame rails (it's difficult to see) and holds 2.5 gallons. The curved back is actually hollow and will be used to mount the switches.


I'm having a day or too off it now, as it's starting to do my head in, but it's definatelly approaching the paint stage. On the next page, you can see Ziggy's "artist's impression" of what it will look like
