March 2nd. At the moment, I'm twiddling my fingers waiting for the profiles, so I thought I'd make a start on the rear mudguard, which is going to be a major feature. I bought one from my local trailer manufacturers for a tenner. Perfect radius, with rolled edges. Not wide enough though, so I cut it in half and welded in a two and a quarter inch strip of heavy duty flat steel. I had to bend it over my knee! It's a tricky job to do, as it's all too easy to weld in a "Twist". It came out perfect, and because of the extra thickness of the insert, is extremely rigid. Might not even need fender braces....can't make my mind up.
The next job was to bond on the Asian mask. I sanded the back down to follow the radius of the mudguard, put a thick seam of
"No-More-Nails" around it, drilled half a dozen holes in mudguard, and screwed it on. It's going nowhere! The next job was to blend it into the 'guard with bodyfiller and sand it down. Tricky and time-consuming! After taking a shitload of pictures of the mask (I'm going to airbrush in all the colours) I gave it a few coats of high-build primer. I'm pretty chuffed with the end result!
I have a load of LED's on order, as the brakelights will be sunk into the end of the tongue, the tail lights will be in the eyes and mouth, and there will be more LED's concealed to light up the number plate. Should look pretty good!
